Beth on June 1, 2009 Salaam,I don’t know if this will ever been seen, but I hope it will.While I understand that some of you are worried about how Muslims are being betrayed, especially through this series, I would have to say as a non-Muslim that this is a great, educational, and funny series.Most of my friends are Muslim, and I can’t tell you how many times they, or I, had to clear up a misconception about the Islamic laws, cultural ways of life, etc.This is like the Cosbys meet Islam, and the entire series of the Cosbys was literally showing the average Joe of America that African-American families were just like theirs.This shows Muslims in everyday occurrences, with a humorous/ comedy spin.I understand that as a Muslim, watching this series, along with any show that has Muslims on it as full-times characters or even a guest spot, you want to make sure that Muslims are portrayed in the best light, with the most accuracy. As a Jew I have to say that I also feel that way. While I love to watch Law & Order and other shows such as that, if one their characters for an episode is Jewish, you bet that I watch closely to see how we are portrayed.For all the people who I know who do not understand a lot of Islam, I suggest certain books for them to read, but also to watch this show.This is a wonderful educational tool for the world to see that Muslims are like everyone else (as many of us non-Muslims know already).And the cast is diverse, with Baber being Pakistani, Fatima being from Nigeria, Sarah being a convert, etc.With the cast being so diverse, the show is allowing people of every different background, color, size, ethnicity, and gender to see themselves as a Muslim character in this show.I’ll leave you with the knowledge that this is a great show. I wish it played in America because we need this show more than any other.If you are worried if Muslims are being put in a bad light through this, or that Rayyan and Amaar are standing/walking to close to each other, or that birthdays is not something that is followed in the strict Islamic practices, remember that it is important that not everyone is so religious. Layla is a young girl in a non-Muslim community, and while birthdays might not be celebrated, Baber did through her a nice, calm surprise birthday party in which all the rules were followed.This is such a great great great wonderful show. I love to watch it because not only do I see a lot of things that are positive, but also it’s funny, and so educational.I hope this is a long long running program that is able to be shown in all non-Muslim countries (and even the Muslim ones) because of how educational and positive it is.Thank you for the time it took you to read this, and Salaam.-Beth
